The use of bitter substances are one of the possibilities for phytogenic substances. Bitter substances improve the secretion of the cardia, the fundus , and the antrum glands. By doing so, the pH into the stomach is reduced. At the same time, the gastrin and the somatostatin ensures that the total acid in the stomach is leveled. An elevated amount of acid in the stomach has an influence on feed intake. This mode of action is an important difference between natural built acids and the use of organic acids as a component for the feedstuff. The use of organic acid in the feedstuff is helpful, but limited.
Other flavour substances, used in digestarom®, enhance the stomach peristaltic and the secretion of gastric fluid. Furthermore, digestarom has an influence on the enzyme activity of the animals. With the forthcoming increase in the costs of protein sources, digestarom® provides the industry with an alternative for less expensive protein sources such as lupine, legumes, or rapeseed.
Further results have shown that digestarom® enhances the digestion of fat. This implies that by using the same quantity of fat a higher amount of metabolic energy is available. The reason for this is that enzyme activity is optimized and the gall is innervated for higher production of conjugated gall acid.
